Weddings in Wartime

We are taking a couple of days off event planning to head over the channel.  Just two weeks to go until we head off for Normandy where we will be attending the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings! We can’t wait and will be taking our bikes on the crossing from Portsmouth to Caen and then cycling between the five famous beaches to take part in the various big events to mark this momentous occasion. There are parachute drops, fireworks, big picnics on the beaches, but most importantly the surviving veterans will be parading to remember the sacrifices of that generation and their colleagues who are no longer with us.

Martin and I feel privileged to be attending and it started us thinking about how weddings and celebrations  must have been very different in wartime conditions, so we started doing some research. Read our tweets and posts over the next couple of weeks and we’ll tell you all about wedding dresses made of parachutes and cakes with cardboard covers due to rationing!
